Brief History of NLP
Neuro Linguistic Programming often known as NLP was created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, in the 1970's. Bander and Grinder were interested in finding out why some people were more successful than others.
What does Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) mean?
Neuro - The activity in our brain.
Linguistic - The language that we use.
Programming - The programmes that we use, such as the learnt behaviours.
How did NLP develop?
Bandler and Grindler studied the work of three therapists that were extremley successful. Virgina Satir, Family therapist. Fritz Perls, Gestalt therapist and Milton Erickson, Hypnotherapist. After studying these therapists Bandler and Grindler developed models that others could follow.
Over the years NLP has grow and can be used in many different ways.
How Colette Counselling uses NLP
Theraputically Some people struggle to talk about their feelings and what is troubling them. The advantage of NLP for these people is that they can work on their issues almost content free or on occasions metaphorically. NLP is different to Humanistic Counselling as the therapist is more directive.
Coaching NLP is focused on modelling what works well. In a coaching session my aim is to get the Client to set personal achievable goals and give them the skills so that they can achieve their goals and be the best version of themselves they can be.
Personal Development This can be done either one to one or in a group setting, which would be tailored to the group or individuals needs.
