What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
Many people feel unsure about hypnotherapy because they associate hypnosis with stage shows, loss of control or being made to do something they do not want to do. Therapeutic hypnotherapy is very different.
In a hypnotherapy session, we begin by talking about what you would like support with and what you hope to change. You remain in control throughout the session, and you can speak, pause or stop at any time.
Hypnotherapy usually involves being guided into a deeply relaxed and focused state. In this state, your mind may feel calmer and more open to exploring thoughts, feelings, memories or patterns in a gentle way. Some people describe it as similar to guided relaxation, visualisation or the absorbed feeling you might have when daydreaming.
You do not need to “perform” or force anything to happen. You may talk during the session, or you may prefer to experience the process quietly. We will work at your pace and only with what feels appropriate for you.
Hypnotherapy can be used on its own or alongside counselling, depending on your needs. It may be helpful if you find it difficult to put feelings into words, feel stuck in repeated patterns, or want to work with relaxation, confidence, habits, anxiety, stress or pain-related coping.
